Abstract

Advisement at all universities is extremely important. A holistic approach to advisement is best. Students need to be advised properly to increase retention and set them on the right path. Students need to be aware that they are being guided by a faculty member that knows what they are talking about so they can succeed in college. Academic advisement must include committed, knowledgeable faculty and staff, who see advisement as part of their teaching function and take a holistic approach to the process.
