The Effects of Family Responsibilties on Working Mothers in the Fields of Science and Technology
Abstract
The dissertation focuses on the effect having a family has on a working mother. Five hypothesis were explored: 1. Working mothers will choose part time work; 2. Working mothers will choose a job outside their highest degree earned; 3. Working mothers will have higher job satisfaction; 4. Working mothers will stop working; 5. Working mothers will accept less income for the same amount of work; all due to family responsibilities. All of the hypotheses were supported with significance; except H3. This dissertation provided the needed evidence that working mothers suffer in their career, due to the family responsbilities they must take on. Suggestions for change are proposed.
