Certain Dimensions of Job Content and Their Relationship to Job Satisfaction
Abstract
The relationship between six dimensions of job content and job satisfaction as a function of membership in four broad occupational groups was investigated in a sample of 2,505 workers in a large electronic manufacturing and development organization. The six dimensions used were similar to those in Hackman and Oldham's Job Diagnostic Survey. It was shown that 1) the relationship between job satisfaction and the six factors of job content does not differ among the four occupational groups, 2) the rating of job satisfaction does not differ among the four oссираtional groups, and 3) that there is a relationship between the factors of job content and job satisfaction. It was suggested that some of the six dimensions of job content are not independent variables but that autonomy, value and feedback are sub factors of job challenge (skill variety).
