MANAGEMENT TRAINING IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA: AN ANALYSIS OF THE NEED.

RICHARD V CONCILIO, Pace University

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the shape and direction of management training needed in Southwest Florida. The need for management training has been ex- pressed by business and civic leaders who are in a position to know, but their feelings, although strong, are not specific in terms of the kinds and amounts of training needed. To develop some usable insights into this was the purpose of this study.Data used in this study were obtained by the normative- survey research method and consisted primarily of personal interviews. Sixteen organizations representing the hospital, banking, distribution, and light manufacturing industry segments were selected and a total of sixty-six interviews were conducted. Management models were developed by the re- searcher of effective management organization and practice for each of four particular industry segments. The data from the interviews were analyzed in an IBM System 360 Model 50 using a Likert-type technique called a summated rating scale. The computer compared prototypical practice in each industry segment with the corresponding management model to determine whether there were major deviations.
